There is no denying the charm exuded by antique heart pine flooring. It can blend in quite well even with modern home settings and bring a uniquely classic beauty to the rest of one’s abode. It is, however, needless to say that such material is old. Hence, homeowners should realize the importance of taking necessary care and precaution when refinishing it.

Pine flooring has been popular for centuries. This is made out of the soft wood of pine trees. The most known type is the heart pine flooring because of how dense it is. In fact, this is the densest one, which can be attributed to its durability and ability to resist damage.

In addition to that quality, this type of flooring is a really nice addition to one’s home considering its colorful tones of red, amber and hues of gold. This is mostly composed of the tree’s most inner part, which is the main reason for its unique hue.

To make sure that the entire refinishing process is done smoothly and effectively, one can go through the flooring and check out the damaged areas. There might be some parts that need replacement while others simply have to be hammered to fix them in place. Any holes in the flower can be plugged with a dowel.

After the entire flooring has been cleared out and the highly damaged boards are replaced, one can proceed to clean up the entire area of antique heart pine flooring. This is done by sanding the flooring with #80-grit sandpaper and following it up with thoroughly vacuuming the entire floor. To complete the cleaning procedure, it is recommended that the floor be wiped with tack cloth.

Before the actual staining takes place, it is recommended for pre-stain wood conditioner to be applied. The main purpose of this solution is to keep the stain from looking blotch or streaked. The said conditioner can be applied with the use of clean rags or a brush and should be left to dry for about 15 minutes.

When staining the floors, one should use a solution that is specifically formulated for antique floors. It takes a maximum of 15 minutes for the stain to be penetrated by the wood. There is a positive relationship between the time the stain is left on the floor and how dark the wooden floor ends up to be. A darker finish can also be achieved with additional application.

For sealing, polyurethane can do the job. A thin coat of it can be brushed on the floor and left to dry for around two hours. After which, one should sand the floor’s surface with a #220-grit sandpaper. After the dust is vacuumed, one can wipe the floor with tack cloth as done earlier. It is then possible to add another layer of topcoat.

The process of refinishing one’s antique heart pine flooring is not really a hard task to do. It does take time and a good amount of work, but any homeowner can do the job himself with a good set of instructions and advice on how to do so.

Whether we are talking about a modern home or a cottage-like abode, no one can deny the fact that heart pine flooring is a really good option. It can blend in well with the rest of the fixtures and may actually be also used as the basis of how the rest of the interior is going to be.

Aside from being highly attractive in any modern or traditional home setting, there are a bunch of other good things this type of flooring brings around. Here are some of them.

1. Durability – Actually, heartwood pine floorings have been highly popular during the thirties and sixties. A number of manufacturers work with this kind of material for a number of reasons. It takes faster for kind of tree to grow. Other durable woods such as oak and walnut are not as cost-efficient as pine, which adds to the value of pine flooring in general.

In addition to that, there is presently a preference for reclaimed pine flooring which has become harder because of its past. It is made even more durable as pine sap and heartwood gets harder over time.

2. Environmentally friendly – Since heart pine flooring is made of trees, it is basically ECO friendly. The production and growth of trees occur naturally. As long as responsible logging is practiced, and cut down trees are replaced immediately, there is not much harm done to the rest of the environment compared to the wastes resulting from the production of concrete construction materials such as cement. Reclaimed pine flooring is really popular these days. This option lessens the number of pine trees that have to be cut down.

3. Measurements – Most lumber products are processed in mills, where customized cutting and preparation of lumber is offered. Because of this, it is possible to produce pine floorings with the specific widths and lengths preferred by the consumer.

4. Grading – Everyone has a different taste. This works even when it comes to the flooring. It is possible for one to request that the timber be sawed and cut specifically according to the grading of the lumber one prefers. It can be something with a lot of knots, one with a vertical grain floor or a cleaner one minus all the knots.

5. Affordable – As pointed out earlier, pine trees are most cost efficient to grow, cut and sawed. This makes it a preferable choice over all the other lumber options available in the forest before and even today. There are other people though who are filled up with thoughts that this kind of flooring is more expensive. After all, it brings a specific character with it that can make an impression on homeowners and guests alike.

All these good reasons make heart pine flooring another good option, if not the best one, a homeowner should consider. It helps create a beautiful home that fits exactly what one has in mind. It might be really affordable, but its overall appearance and value makes it a perfect material for anybody’s home.

Heart Pine Floor Cleaning Tips

Heart Pine floors are quickly becoming the new fad with homeowners. For those who are still unaware of what Engineered Heart Pine Flooring is, it is layers of materials compressed together to create Heart Pine flooring. It is capable of taking on any effect and being any color desired. Not only is Heart Pine flooring easy to clean, it can save you hundreds of dollars in the long run. In fact, you don’t have to empty your savings account any longer to get that beautiful hardwood floor. You can purchase a Heart Pine Floors, which is just as durable as a wood floor if not more. For these reasons and more, Heart Pine flooring is gaining in popularity.

Cleaning Engineered Heart Pine Flooring

What is the best way to keep your Heart Pine floors clean? Due to the fact that Engineered Heart Pine have several layers, the first layer or the surface protects the Heart Pine floor. With this protection, keeping your Heart Pine floors floor clean has just become easier. The best tip for cleaning your Heart Pine floor is to purchase a cleaner that is safe for Heart Pine. Do not use wax cleaners, polishes or abrasive cleaning products on your Heart Pine flooring as they can damage the finish.
Along with using the proper cleaner, there are other tips to assist you in maintaining the natural beauty of your Heart Pine flooring. Unlike traditional hardwood floors you can use warm water to clean your Heart Pine flooring. It is suggested to use a good mop and ring the mop out twice as excessive water will damage your Heart Pine flooring. Do not allow spills to stand on your Heart Pine flooring, wipe them up immediately to keep the quality of your Heart Pine floors in tact.

Protecting Heart Pine Flooring

As with any hard flooring, using carpet rugs in high traffic areas is also a must with Heart Pine floors. You should also consider using rugs in areas of high use, such as in the kitchen and near all sinks. Carpet rugs help to trap dirt and debris brought from outside your home. Along with providing rugs, you should also sweep your Heart Pine floors often. If time permits, sweep your floors daily. This will help to ensure that your Pine floors remain beautiful.
With so many choices in Heart Pine flooring, it’s hard to go wrong when making Heart Pine the floor of your choice. With its easy maintenance and low cost, you’ve saved both time and money. Remember, to keep those Heart Pine floors looking beautiful, use a product designed to clean Heart Pine floors. If it doesn’t say “safe for Heart Pine floors” then don’t purchase it. Most Wood floor cleaners are cost effective and save time in the cleaning process. Using a cleaner that is not designed for your Heart Pine floor can lead to disaster. Repairing or replacing a Heart Pine floor takes much more time then reading the labels of the cleaning products available to you.

Why use ? Antique Heart Pine Flooring has a certain beauty and mystique that is sought after by many, for it’s rustic harm patina. With it’s amber hue’s and knotty naily character heart pine is a unique choice for any modern or cottage style home. Today many smart consumers in the market for a new floor are actually looking to buy an old floor, well it’s really not Old but more ECO-Friendly Reclaimed alternatives. So Why Use it?

ECO-Friendly Heart Pine

Using Reclaimed Antique Flooring in your home can help the environment by offering an alternative salvaged flooring re-sawn into tongue and groove wide plank floors. Cutting down trees to make flooring will impact our natural forests in the future while choosing a reclaimed alternative will cut out the middle man ( sorry for the pun ) and keep the logging down to a minimum. Helping the environment is a really good reason to use Antique Heart Pine for your next home project.

Custom Milling

Most Lumber Mills offer custom milling so they can offer wider widths and longer lengths than most flooring on the market. The average lengths can run anywhere from 12in to 16ft. They also offer wide planks from 2 1/4″ Wide up to 12″ depending on how wide the beam was. Usually a 5″ wide Heart Pine Plank is used for most residential installations. So you can really benefit from having a custom heart pine floor thats available in almost any dimension imaginable.

Cuts & Grading

Lumber Mills can also produce flooring to suit your visual liking. Lumber Mills can saw and cut the timber to create either character grade flooring with lots of knots or a vertical grain floor which has no knots and a cleaner look. Pine Flooring is graded by color and character mostly so when choosing a floor ask for a sample before you make a purchase to make sure your comfortable with the character and look for your home.

Durability

Reclaimed Flooring is actually harder than most other pine species found due to it’s aged and hardened past. Usually most Antique Pine is reclaimed from Old Cotton Mills, Warehouses and salvaged buildings that have been around since the early 19th century having been stored or holding up structures for over 100 years the pine sap and heartwood gets hard like resin over time then becomes even more durable then even before made into a Beam. So with that being said the older the beam the harder the heart pine flooring will be.

Affordable Flooring Option

Depending on availability, antique flooring can be really affordable compared to other flooring types. A lot of people in the market for a new floor think heart pine flooring will be to expensive for their home project bur Usually cottage grade or character grade flooring will be lower in price compared to most wood species and honestly suitable for most home installations. I would check market prices and shop around for the best quality and the lowest price available.

So really there are many good reasons to beautify your home with a Natural Hand Crafted Heart Pine Flooring that will last another lifetime.
